Credit Union Adopts ‘Teach a Man to Fish’ Approach to Support Local Food Businesses
HAUPPAUGE, NY (June 5, 2014) -- Teachers Federal Credit Union (TFCU), Long Island’s largest member-based credit union, is hosting its second annual Artisanal Farmers Market at its Hauppauge headquarters at 102 Motor Parkway on June 5, 2014. Partnering with Amityville’s food business incubator, The Kitchen Co-Op, TFCU is bringing a host of locally grown produce and artisanal foods from both established farmers and up-and-coming businesses to the local community.

TFCU Artisanal Farmers Market will be open to all Long Islanders starting Thursday, June 5, and appearing weekly on every Thursday from 11 AM until 5:30 PM at TFCU’s Hauppauge headquarters located at102 Motor Parkway until October 30.
“Partnering with TFCU helps our entrepreneurs get out into the market, all while showcasing that Long Island is still very capable of producing healthy, vibrant food,” says Cindy Sierra, co-founder of The Kitchen Co-Op.
The TFCU Artisanal Farmers Market brings together Long Island’s past and future in one event. “These markets, first established by local farmers and embraced by local artisans from a variety of professions, are the commercial future of Long Island,” says Allen. “It’s important we support their efforts.”
The Market is hosting 23 vendors offering fresh produce, fruit, grain-fed beef, dairy products, locally-caught seafood, gluten-free soups and baked goods, olive oils, hummus, bread puddings, Italian foods, cheeses, pickles, teas and many others.
