Shredding Day and Book Collection Event at TFCU Hauppauge - A Twofold Success
June 2, 2016
Hauppauge, N.Y., June 2, 2016 – Teachers Federal Credit Union (TFCU), one of the country’s largest credit unions, recently held a Shredding Day at its Hauppauge headquarters. TFCU members and community residents brought large quantities of paper documents and records for secure shredding as well as generous donations of gently used books to be redistributed by The Book Fairies. The Book Fairies is a local nonprofit organization that collects books for distribution to schools and libraries across Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
The free event brought community and TFCU members out in large numbers. Families and individuals took advantage of the opportunity to safely destroy accumulated old paper records and recycle them. Members watched as the mobile shredding vehicle conducted the on-site free service.
“Shredding Days are regularly sponsored by TFCU to give members and local residents the opportunity to dispose of the paper documents that they no longer need in an environmentally friendly and secure manner. In addition to the destruction of thousands of pounds of financial and other paper records, the response to the call for book donations for The Book Fairies was very impressive,” said Robert G. Allen, TFCU President/CEO.
TFCU’s Shredding Day originally grew out of the desire to help reduce identity theft and fraud, and it has evolved into an environmental awareness program for consumers that reflect TFCU’s commitment to its members and to all Long Islanders.
